Saint Peter in Gallicantu In Palestine: History,Facts, & Services
Saint Peter in Gallicantu (Cock's Crow) is a Church in Jerusalem, Israel, and one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Christianity. It is located in the area of Mount Zion at the foot of the Kidron Valley, overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem. The name translates as Peter's Cock-Crow, referring to the denial of Jesus by Peter, as mentioned in the Gospels. The church is built on the site where Peter repented and sought forgiveness from Jesus after his triple denial. It contains a crypt on the lower level and an upper chapel, dedicated to St Peter. The church is staffed by the Salesian order. It is a popular pilgrimage destination, particularly for Catholics, who come to pray and commemorate the events of Jesus' Passion.
