Chapel of the Ascension In Palestine: History,Facts, & Services
The Chapel of the Ascension in Palestine is an important site of Christian pilgrimage located on the Mount of Olives in the city of Jerusalem. The site is said to be the place where Jesus ascended into heaven after his resurrection. According to tradition, a chapel was first built in this location following the ascension of Jesus. It was destroyed during the reign of Julian the Apostate in 363 CE. The current chapel, dating from the 16th century, is a popular site for Christians, believed to be the holiest of all the sites on the Mount of Olives. Pilgrims visit the chapel to pray and reflect upon Jesus' ascension, and to celebrate the feast day dedicated to this event on Ascension Thursday. The chapel is open to the public and serves as a house of worship for local Christians.
