Lutheran Church of the Redeemer In Palestine: History,Facts, & Services

Lutheran Church of the Redeemer In Palestine was founded in 1890 as a mission in Bethlehem by the Schmid family, who served the Holy Land for more than 20 years. The church has been a witness to the region’s centuries-old conflict but has persevered to this day as a beacon of hope. As Palestinians, they believe that peace is possible and that the kingdom of God can be realized through mutual trust and justice for all people. Located in the Church of Nativity, the church services are in Arabic, English and occasionally German, and they have facilities for bible studies, youth ministries, music, and social outreach. Their mission is to spread the unconditional grace of God and to serve as a bridge of understanding between different denominations and cultures. The church also works to build bridges between Christian and Muslim communities through inter-faith initiatives and dialogue. As an ecumenical church, they recognize the value and work of other denominations in the area, and as an international body, they hold true to the doctrines of the Lutheran church.
