Architecture:
The Al Ma'awil South West Mosque is a traditional two-story mosque situated in Dhakhiliyah, Oman. The main entrance is located in the centre of the eastern façade, with two symmetrical doors leading into the open space, allowing worshippers to congregate before entering either prayer room. The main prayer hall is accessed through the doors in the eastern façade, and is used as the main room of prayer. The walls are made from stone and the dome is built of baked bricks, covered in plaster to make it smooth. The interior is adorned with engravings of Koran verses on wooden panels along with decorated windows and columns. The smaller prayer hall, situated to the west, is mainly used by women and is accessed by a staircase on the northern façade of the mosque. It consists of a series of balcony-like seating areas, which can accommodate a small number of worshippers. The exterior of the mosque is simple and lacks intricate decorations. The main façades are made of stone and have been whitewashed to reflect the heat of the sun. The rest of the mosque is left in its natural state, with the exception of wooden lattice screens around doorways and windows, which enhance the building's privacy.
