Brief History:

The Al Khabourah South West North South Mosque in Oman, is one of the oldest mosques in the capital Muscat. It was built in the second half of the seventeenth century, near the palace of the Imam Bil'arab bin Sultan at the time. The grand mosque was built in the style of the Grand Mosque of Sana'a in Yemen. The four minarets of Al Khabourah mosque represent the four directions of the compass: south, east, north and west. It is most famous for its grand dome in the center of the mosque, which was constructed by the Sudanese architect Sayyid Ali Mubarak. During the renovation in the 1950s, many precious materials were used such as Majrooh marble blocks, Tuscan marble columns, white stones from Mecca and Muqalla, as well as the red sandstone from Bahrain. The mosque was damaged in an earthquake in 1945 but restored in the 1950s. It was later renovated in 1993 to its current look. It is one of the most famous mosque in Oman which you must visit.
