Østre Aker Church is a Lutheran church located in Oslo, Norway. It is part of the Church of Norway and the Diocese of Oslo. This church was originally built in 1259, making it one of the oldest churches in the city. Its original purpose was to serve the needs of the local tenant farmers who worked the surrounding agricultural land and farms. The church underwent several renovations throughout its long history, including an expansion and renovation in the 1600s when it became a parish church and was eventually converted to a cruciform church in the late 1800s. The church has been a popular venue for special services, weddings and funerals in the city. In 2016, the church was made part of the cultural heritage register of Norway. The building is built in a post-gothic style, featuring several nods to traditional gothic architectural styles. Inside the church is an impressive organ and seating capacity of up to 600 people. There is also a traditional churchyard surrounding the building. Church services at Østre Aker are held each Sunday, with a daily pre-recorded devotional that can be accessed online or heard over local radio. Children’s ministries, youth activities, Bible studies and other events take place throughout the week.
