Skjold kyrkje is a twelfth-century Romanesque church in the modern municipality of Bergen, Norway. The church is noted for its distinctive shape, being an oval-shaped, unenclosed building rather than the traditional long-church design, and is considered one of the most important examples of Romanesque architecture in Norway. The building was constructed around 1200 and was dedicated to Saint Olave, king of Norway in the mid-11th century and a popular patron saint of the area at the time. The Skjold kyrkje is first mentioned in a 1285 written record where its location is specified as being along the shore in Trondenes near Rode, a short distance from the present municipality of Bergen. The church is presumed to have been built in the twelfth century as part of a royal compound overseen by a royal estate manager.
