Brøttum Church is a Lutheran parish church in Ringsaker municipality in Hedmark county, Norway. It is located in the village of Brøttum, about 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) south of the town of Hamar. The church’s congregation belongs to the Ringsaker deanery in the Diocese of Hamar.
History
Brøttum Church was built around the year 1200 and was likely completed in the years after 1207. It was constructed by the archbishop of Nidaros, Øystein Erlendsson, and consecrated by him. Despite renovations in 1621, 1702 and 1880, it has retained its medieval character.
Facts
Brøttum Church is a whitewashed, wooden long-church built in a gothic style. It measures 47 metres (154 feet) in length and 18 metres (59 feet) in width, including two towers. The sanctuary is surrounded by a stone wall, and it has a large timber roof and two small spirelets. The main altar is from the 16th century.
