History:

The Seventh-day Adventist Church was formed out of the Millerite movement of the 1840s. Followers of William Miller, a Baptist preacher and early advocate of the Second Advent, had been gathering in anticipation of Christ's return which they believed would be on October 22nd, 1844. When that date came and went without Christ's return, a period of deep disappointment and confusion among Millerites ensued. In the aftermath, the Millerite movement split into several different denominations, with the Seventh-day Adventist Church forming in 1863. Led by several of Miller's former followers, the Church has become an international organization focused on spreading Miller's teachings and living out his legacy. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
