History:

The Church of Nigeria was formed in 1952 following the formation of the Anglican Province of West Africa, also known as the Province of Sierra Leone. It assumed its current name and became a self-governing province in 1979 after it left West Africa. Prior to that, it had been a missionary district under the jurisdiction of the Province of West Africa. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
