The Catholic Apostolic Church of Nigeria is an offshoot of the Church of the Lord (Aladura) which was founded by Josiah O. or Joseph A. Jill in 1919. The Aladura denomination sought to unify traditional African religious practices with the Christian faith. At the same time, members of the new church sought to bring a renewal of the old Apostolic faith by using such practices such as praying in the Holy Spirit, speaking in tongues, and healing through prayer and faith. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Nigeria.
