Redeemed Christian Church of God In Nigeria: History,Facts, & Services

The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) is a Pentecostal denomination founded in Nigeria in 1952 by Rev. Josiah Akindayomi and currently headed by Pastor Enoch Adeboye. The church has a widely diverse international membership with more than 14 million adherents in nearly 160 countries and territories. The main headquarters are located in Lagos, Nigeria. RCCG’s main mission is “to make heaven” by establishing a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. They believe in the necessity of being born again, baptism in water, and the infilling of the Holy Spirit to equip believers for Christian service. The church originated in 1952 when a small group of about 15 people gathered in rev. Akindayomi’s home to meet for prayer and bible study. RCCG officially began in 1954 and has grown to become one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the world. Services offered by RCCG vary from place to place and from denomination to denomination, but generally incorporate a variety of music, preaching and teaching, scripture reading, and prayers. Other services may include cultural programs, children’s ministries, weddings, ordinations, baptisms, healing and deliverance services, seminars and workshops, and more. RCCG has an extensive structure of governance, with designated churches known as parishes, which are overseen by overseers, and each parish is under the authority of a pastor. The pastors of the parishes report to the area pastors and area pastors report to the provincial pastors, who in turn report to the general overseer.
