Worship Method:
Pathibhara Devi Temple is one of the most revered pilgrimage sites in Nepal celebrated for its unique religious practices. The worship of the Goddess is conducted in the traditional Hindu style where devotees seeking her blessings offer flowers, fruits, incense, and other offerings to show their devotion. The ritual of the worship at Pathibhara Devi Temple involves three main components- Bhajan (devotional songs praising God), Puja (offering of flowers, incense, etc.), and Aarati (lighting of lamps). The Puja includes the ritual of offering a kalash of yogurt with roli, moli and sindoor. The devotees then light a lamp and offer flowers as an offering to the Goddess. On special occasions such as Dashain, devotees perform a Jatra (procession) from Sundari VDC to Pathibhara Devi to offer special worship to the deity. They commence their journey from the Lawang Temple and proceed to the sacred shrine of Pathibhara, carrying lamps in their hands. After offering prayers, devotees then take small portions of the offerings to be consumed as Prasad. The exclusive puja of Pathibhara Devi is marked by presenting meat, fish, wine, and Khadanda (a preparation of roasted corn flour). On the night before the puja, devotees offer a special puja to Lord Bhairava, who is the guardian deity of Pathibhara Devi temple. The puja consists of offering a dakshina of flowers, fruits, incense, and rice. The worship of Pathibhara Devi is also conducted in an exclusive style. When making a pilgrimage to the temple, devotees offer a Bhaar (special saddle) to the Goddess, made from flowers and decorated with colored cloth. After the puja is offered, the devotees go around the hill in a circle three times and break the Bhaar, before offering their prayers. The worship of Pathibhara Devi is concluded by offering kasturi lamps to the Goddess and engaging in karyahsti (sacred rituals of offering). Devotees then chant the mantras of Goddess Pathibhara Devi and offer their pradakshina (circumambulating of the temple). Prayers are then offered for the fulfillment of wishes and blessings of the presiding deity. The ritual of worship at Pathibhara Devi Temple is marked by utmost devotion and reverence.
