Worship Method:

Kirateshwor Mahadev is one of the most important Hindu shrines in Nepal. People from all over the world travel to visit the temple. There are many methods of worship that are followed in this temple. The most common way of worship at Kirateshwor Mahadev is known as ‘puja’. During puja, a priest lights a stone lamp which is placed in front of the deity and offers flower petals, food, sweets, and incense. Special songs, chants, and mantras are also recited during the puja. Once the puja is completed, devotees offer a garland to the deity followed by aarti. In addition to the above, devotional songs are sung in praise of the deity and Bhajans are also recited. Other forms of worship at the temple include fasting, conducting yagnas, reciting mantras, and throwing coins into a holy vessel near the deity. Aarti is also conducted with camphor and a bell is rung after the aarti. After aarti, a kalash is filled with water and touched to the deity’s forehead. This is a sign of respect and gratitude to the deity. Visitors to the temple offer Prasad, fruits, flowers, and coins in gratitude. Lastly, visitors perform a pradakshina (circumambulation) to the deity. The pradakshina is typically done three times while facing the deity with folded hands and chanting a special mantra.
