In Nepal, Chhonga Ganesh is typically worshiped during the Ganesh Puja festival. This is a five-day Hindu festival celebrated in the fall, typically in the month of October or November. During this time, devotees offer prayers to the god Chhonga. People principally offer garlands, sweet dishes, and small idols made of metal or clay. The idol should be smaller than 6 inches. Devotees also fast for the duration of the festival. After the puja, devotees open the idol and put in it wealth, rice, lentils, and a red thread and then close it again. Devotees also conduct a procession with the idol. On the final day, devotees wash the idol in holy water and burry it.
