The United Congregational Church of Southern Africa In Namibia: History,Facts, & Services
The United Congregational Church of Southern Africa (UCCSA) is a mainstream Christian church with roots in the Congregationalist tradition. UCCSA seeks to build spiritually alive and dynamic congregations, while promoting justice and development in Southern Africa. The UCCSA derives its history from a union of denominations that created the South Africa General Mission (SAGM) in 1841 and the United Congregational Church of South Africa in 1853. It broke away from the London Missionary Society due to differences over the political involvement of Missionary Churches in the region. Today, the UCCSA has a membership of around 800,000 people across nine countries in Southern Africa. It runs practical projects, offers health services and supports entrepreneurship. The Church is also a leader in interfaith action and dialogue with both Christian and other faith traditions.
