The Cathedral was founded by the Salesians of Don Bosco who arrived in Rundu in 1964. The construction of the Cathedral began in 1965 and was completed in 1970. The building was designed by Casmiri Laetter. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Namibia.
