History:

The Church was founded in April 1830 by Joseph Smith and is based on the revelations that he received. Smith and his followers moved to Ohio, then to Missouri and Illinois, finally settling in Utah. The church experienced considerable persecution in its early years, as Smith and other leaders were arrested and tarred and feathered multiple times. Smith was eventually killed by a mob in 1844.
