The Evangelical Church in Grootfontein (ECG) is a member of the United Evangelical Church of Africa, and the only Christian Church in Grootfontein. The ECG was established in 1948 by Rev. B.D McLeod, a white missionary who settled in the area to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the local people. The ECG has been a pillar of religious, social, and cultural life in Grootfontein ever since. It is one of the best churches in Namibia which you must visit.

History:

The Evangelical Church in Grootfontein was founded in 1948. Rev. McLeod and his family arrived in Grootfontein in April of that year, and the first services were held in May at the home of Johannes Martinus Johannes. Within a few months, the congregation had grown so large that meetings were being held in the schoolroom of a nearby farmhouse. Over the next few years, more churches were established around Grootfontein and the surrounding area. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Namibia.
