RCCG experienced a rapid growth in the 1970s, and, as of 2021, it is one of the largest Pentecostal denominations in the world and the single largest Christian denomination in Nigeria, with an estimated number of 7 million members worldwide. The church was established in 1952 by Josiah Akindayomi, a former Anglican Church member who later rediscovered his Christian roots and joined the Apostolic Faith Church. His ministry formed the basis for the founding of RCCG in 1953. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Namibia.
