Mawtinzun Pagoda is a major pilgrimage site in Myanmar for those who follow the Theravada form of Buddhism. The traditional worship method at this pagoda remains largely unchanged since it was built and is as follows: 1. Devotees performing thodyo, a form of prostration, three times at the pagoda entrance and prostrate themselves fully three times at the inner hall. 2. They offer flowers and invocations to show respect while walking around the inner shrine. 3. Offerings like candles, incense and other items called buya-gita (Buddhist sacred books) are made in the Maranayone chamber and the Zemindaw chamber. 4. Prayers and chants are recited while paying respects to each part of the pagoda. 5. Percussion instruments are used to create a festive atmosphere. 6. Devotees also circumambulate around the pagoda three times, praying, chanting and holding incense sticks. 7. This is accompanied by further chanting and deep bows. 8.
