Worship Method:

The worship method at Kanjiramattam Sree Mahadeva Temple in Kerala is based on Shashtiabdapurthi– the celebration of the 60th birthday of a deity. Before the main festival, a ten-day puja is conducted in the temple in which the deity is made to go through a sort of examination to test his knowledge of the spiritual sciences. After this, a pontification ceremony, called the Thulabharam is held, in which offerings of fruits and flowers are given to the lord, which is then followed by a holy bath. Devotees also participate in the ceremony by singing songs of praise and offering flowers in the presence of the lord. After this, the main festival begins with a procession carrying the deity, to be taken to various holy places and temples in and around the area.
