History:

The Sacré Coeur was built in 1873 as a symbol of gratefulness for the deliverance of the city from the siege of the Franco-Prussian War. Its construction began six years after Napoleon III authorized the creation of the Committee for the Design of the Sacred Heart. The architect Paul Abadie was chosen to build the project. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Mauritius.
