The parish church in Xaghra has a long and storied history stretching back to the early 17th century. The first chapel, made of limestone, was erected in 1678. By 1744, the church was expanded and improved upon and was dubbed the Church of the Nativity of Our Lady. In the 19th century, it underwent major renovations and was further expanded.
