 Victory Church (The Nativity of Our Lady Church) was founded in 1844 by a Russian Orthodox Priest named Alexander Mihailovich Kochurov, who was a missionary sent to America by the Russian Imperial government. He was instructed to propagate and spread the Orthodox faith throughout the entire state of Illinois. He traveled from village to village holding religious services and winning adherents. He began constructing the church in 1845, and it was completed in just one year. It is one of the oldest Orthodox churches in the United States.
