Worship Method:

The Shri Mahalakshmi Temple in Ratnagiri is one of the places of worship of the Goddess Lakshmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. The main mode of worship at the temple is through offering puja, or worship rituals, to the goddess. Symbolically, the goddess is represented by a small earthen image, which is usually enshrined in a small silver or bronze shrine in the inner sanctum of the temple. The traditional puja is offered daily in the morning and the evening. During the puja, devotees chant mantras and offer traditional items such as incense, camphor, flowers, fruits and sweets as offerings to the goddess. Some of the offerings may also include water or milk, which are then poured on the earthen image to signify the shower of blessings from the goddess. The devotees may also perform a ritual of arati (circumambulation), wherein the devotees walk around the shrine in a clockwise direction as they chant mantras. This ritual is believed to bring them closer to the divine blessings of the goddess. Visitors to the temple also take part in the Mahalakshmi Yagya, a religious ceremony dedicated to the Goddess.
