FIARAM Apangabe Ambohitrimanjaka (Ara-pilazantsara) is a village located in the centrale district of the country of Madagascar, on the extreme east of the island. The village is situated near the town of Manandriana and along the central corridor of the East Coast of the island. The village is named after its founder, Apangabe Ambohitrimanjaka. He was renowned for his teaching of the “ara-pilazantsara”, a type of ritual witchcraft which consists of a combination of medicine, animal bones, and prayers. This kind of practice symbolizes a special bond between the living and the dead, and it is used to ward off and protect against harmful spirits and to bring prosperity and good luck to the village and its surrounding areas. The village also offers medical services for the locals, as well as basic education for the older generations.
