As Christian missionaries began to make their way to the island to preach the gospel, David Jones of the London Missionary Society was one of the most influential figures. He was responsible for introducing the Malagasy people to Christianity, particularly Protestantism. In 1815, he founded the Fiangonana Advantiste AMBOHIDROA, the first Protestant organization in the country. The name of the organization comes from the Malagasy phrase ‘Fiangonana Advantiste’, meaning ‘Church of the Protestant Lord’.
