Žiežmariai Church of St. James the Apostle In Lithuania: History,Facts, & Services
is a Roman Catholic Church located in Žiežmariai, Lithuania. Since 1825, it has been a major pilgrimage site for Lithuanians. The church was originally built in 1705, with the current structure, built in a baroque style, being constructed in 1812. The church's interior features fine stucco work and a stunning baroque ceiling. The church is home to many priceless works of art, including a painting of St. James that was created by prominent Lithuanian artist Mikolajus Psellos, as well as a painting of Our Lady Of Šiluva, the first shrine of the Blessed Virgin Mary in all of Lithuania, given by King Stanislaw August. The church also houses several important historical artifacts, including a bronze bell dating back to 1663 and a Lithuanian church banner dating back to 1740. In addition, the Church of St. James the Apostle holds two Mass services each week.
