The Cathedral-Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul is one of Lithuania’s most important religious and cultural sites, and one of the oldest churches in Vilnius. Located in Vilnius Old Town on the banks of the Vilnia River, the cathedral was initially built in the early 13th century and has been modified, reconstructed and restored numerous times since then. History:

The Cathedral-Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul was first constructed in 1251, and initially served as a small wooden church. It was eventually replaced with a stone Gothic-style building in the 15th century, and underwent many changes after that. Parts of the building were later destroyed or looted after repeated invasions. In 1699, the cathedral was extended and crossed slightly with a pseudo-baroque touch and the interiors later decorated with Rococo art. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the cathedral was returned to its rightful owners and underwent major renovations. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Lithuania.
