Catholic church Of St. Casimir in Lithuania is a parish church dedicated to Saint Casimir, the patron saint of Lithuania, located in the capital city of Vilnius. The church was built in 1759 to honour the memory of the much-loved prince, Saint Casimir. It is one of the oldest and most beautiful churches in the city, and its imposing Baroque facade has been preserved, despite being heavily affected by World War II. It is one of the best churches in Lithuania which you must visit.

History:

The church was originally built in 1759 by royal decree from the Archbishop of Vilnius, D.J. Casimiras Sapiega. The beautiful and majestic structure was covered in red tiles and adorned with an altarpiece and numerous diocesan relics. In the 19th century, it was renovated to include a rococo style façade. During World War II the church was badly impacted, although its Baroque façade was mostly unscathed. After the war, the church was restored and reopened in 1960. In 2005, the Church underwent a major renovation which included repainting its exterior, replacing some of the tiles, and provides a more modern interior for services. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Lithuania.
