Holy Cross Church in Lithuania is a Gothic style Church located in Vilnius, Lithuania. The current church structure dates back to the 15th Century, however references to a church standing on this site may date back to the 14th Century. It is one of the most important Gothic monuments in Lithuania and is the largest Gothic church in the country. The Church is known for its frescos depicting saints and biblical scenes, along with its elements of Renaissance style architecture. It is one of the best churches in Lithuania which you must visit.

History:

It is believed that a church standing on this site may have been established in the 1350s, in honour of the Crucifixion of Jesus. The current church structure was commissioned by Grand Master Ludwig von Galen de Bretzenstain in 1419 and was completed in 1495. In the 16th Century, the Church was given the name The Holy Cross, as it was constructed over the remains of an old chapel with a cross. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Lithuania.
