History:

The Dickson House is located in Kuwait City, Kuwait. The building was originally constructed by Scottish expatriate and contractor Mathew Dickson who arrived in Kuwait City in 1948. It was originally planned to be used as a family home for Mathew and his family. However, in 1953 the building was given to the Kuwait Government in lieu of unpaid workers’ wages and subsequently opened as a museum and cultural center in 1956. Since then, the Dickson house has served as an important cultural center in Kuwait, hosting many traditional events and activities as well as tours and educational activities for students and tourists. In 1988, the house was renovated and reopened as the official home of the Kuwait National Museum. The Dickson House continues to play an important role in the country’s cultural and educational life.
