Al-Messilah Mosque is a historic mosque located in Kuwait City, Kuwait. It is recognized as one of the oldest mosques in the country. The mosque dates back to the early 1840s, when members of the Kuwaiti tribe of Al-Messilah prevailed over the Sunni forces from Turkey and Najd. In gratitude, the leaders of Al-Messilah gave their name to the mosque. The mosque was originally built of mud-brick in a style typical of the region, but the building was later redesigned in stone to give it a more modern appearance. The mosque was remodeled and enlarged in 1901 and again in 1905. The mosque was restored a third time in the mid-1990s, when it was completely renovated and expanded to become a two-story building with a capacity of around 1400 people. Al-Messilah Mosque has undergone its fourth and most recent restoration in 2020. After six months of extensive renovations, the mosque was reopened with all-new features, including 22 domes and a total capacity of 2200 worshipers. The mosque also boasts a multi-colored marble clad façade and the latest state-of-the-art audio-visual system.
