The Liberation Tower is an iconic structure that stands tall in Kuwait City with a height of 370 meters. The communication tower was built within two years, from 1993 to 1996, to commemorate the liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi forces in 1991. The tower is surrounded by a parking lot, free to all visitors, with multiple free services such as a chaplaincy, prayer room, ATM, and café. The tower was designed by the European architectural firm Erco and its unique design includes a water tank at the top of the building, 80 meters above the ground. The 120 cubic meter tank is made from 8 layers of steel plates and is secured with an internal airtight lid. The tank is used to provide water for the communications systems, in addition to cooling the tower from direct sunlight in summer. In 2014, the 10th anniversary of the Liberation Tower was celebrated with a colorful light show that illuminated the tower including its water tank. This spectacle attracted thousands of visitors, from Kuwait and around the world, to enjoy a beautiful display of light and beauty.
