Al-Seif Palace is a historic palace in Kuwait located in Seif neighborhood in Kuwait City. It is one of the oldest and most important places of royal residence and court in Kuwait. The palace was originally constructed in 1906 by Sheikh Mubarak Al-Sabah I, being the first royal palace after two centuries of no building on the similar scale. It was then added to and refurbished by subsequent sheikhs. It was King Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah who saw the expansion and decoration of the palace, as he was a passionate builder and collector of antiques. The palace became even more grandiose between 1975 and 1980, during the rule of Emir and Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. During this time, several of the palace rooms and facades were refurbished and beautified. This would later make the palace a cultural heritage icon in Kuwait - a place of extraordinary architectural beauty as well as a representation of past and ever-changing societies. The palace is truly an impressive sight. It is surrounded by a courtyard, overlooking a pool and fountain.
