The Beit Al Qur’an Museum in Kuwait was founded in 1986 as the first museum in the region dedicated to the study and preservation of Islamic artifacts. It is located in the Darwaza area, a part of the Farwaniya Governorate. The Beit Al Qur’an Museum was established to promote the appreciation of Islamic heritage and culture, drawing from a large collection of Quranic and Islamic manuscripts, artworks and artifacts. The building itself, which houses the museum, is a Kuwaiti traditional diwaniya, with the aim of encouraging Kuwaitis to visit and appreciate their own heritage. The museum's collection includes about 2000 manuscripts dating from the 6th to the 19th centuries, as well as a large collection of rare religious books, maps, artifacts and antiques from various Islamic countries. The museum also has a variety of multimedia displays presenting information about Quranic teachings and Islamic culture, and regular exhibitions featuring different Islamic themes. Public lectures, workshops, and educational programs are held periodically at the museum in collaboration with various Kuwaiti educational and cultural organizations. The museum also hosts a succession of cultural displays, highlighting Kuwaiti culture and Islamic art, and special programs for students and teachers. The Beit Al Qur’an Museum is also involved in the preservation of Islamic works, focusing on the conservation of Islamic manuscripts and the transfer of knowledge from generation to generation. The museum has recently opened a Digital Quranic Project, an online platform to help preserve the manuscripts.
