History:
The castle is believed to have been built by the Hashemite Kingdom in the mid-9th century as a fortified base from which to keep watch on the surrounding region. It was later occupied by the Umayyads, the Abbasids, the Fatimids, the Seljuqs and the Ayyubids. Sela' Castle This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jordan.

Sela' Castle is one of the few castles in the Middle East to be built using exclusively stone and mortar. The base of the castle is an oval wall made up of limestone blocks, which are laid on top of each other without mortar or other binding elements.
