St. Anne's Church, Jerusalem In Jerusalem is an active Roman Catholic church in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is located in the middle of the Muslim Quarter next to the Bethesda Pool and is built on the site believed to be the home of Anne and Joachim, grandparents of Jesus. The original Crusader-era church was consecrated in 1138 and was rebuilt in a more Baroque style between 1871 and 1878 thanks to the contributions of Pope Pius IX. St Anne’s Church is one of the few Catholic churches in Jerusalem and is a popular destination for tourists and pilgrims. It is one of the best churches in Jerusalem which you must visit.

History:

The appearance of St. Anne’s Church today dates back to 1871 when it was rebuilt under the patronage of Pius IX to replace the original Crusader-era church which had been destroyed. This newer building featured a series of Baroque-style arches which are still visible today. Shortly after the building of the second church, the whole area surrounding the church was razed to make way for the building of what would become the Muslim Quarter. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jerusalem.
