Emmaus Church in Jerusalem is a Christian church located on the site traditionally accepted as the biblical town of Emmaus. It is believed that it was here that Jesus Christ appeared to two of his disciples who were walking together from Jerusalem to Emmaus after the Crucifixion. It is also said to have been built near the site of the abbey where Jesus and his followers lived after their return from Galilee. The church contains artifacts and manuscripts dating back to pre-Constantine times.
The site contains the remains of a Crusader-period church, restored several times over the centuries. The sanctuary has a large iconostasis with a fresco representing Jesus and his two disciples at Emmaus, as well as a painting of the Last Supper.
The church is open for services and visitors, such as bible study and Christian education. Visitors can also explore the archaeological remains of the Byzantine-era church which includes a mausoleum, refectory, and other rooms. The grounds are also home to a number of plants and herbs traditionally used in Middle Eastern cuisine.
