The history of St. Theresa's Roman Catholic Church can be traced back to the early 1800s. In 1839, Rev. Kahl, the first priest in Detroit, was appointed. He purchased an old building and renovated it for use as a church for the faithful. It was the very first church in the city of Detroit with a Catholic congregation.
