St. Michael's was established by the Catholic Church in Walton County in September 1963. The original site of the church was on Eglin AFB, and hearings were held at the Hurlburt Chapel. Rev. John Kennedy was the first resident pastor and the church opened on November 6th, 1963. In 1965-1966, land was purchased and construction began on a new church building with the first Mass in the completed church celebrated on June 25th, 1966. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jamaica.
