The Litchfield Baptist Church was founded in 1745 by Reverend Joseph Bellamy and twelve original members of the newly formed Community of Christ. The bell tower was constructed in 1762 and the first meeting house was completed in 1765. In 1809, the meeting house was replaced with a larger building and has served the church since then.
