Ebenezer Chapel United Pentecostal Church (UPC) was founded in 1960 by Bishop William Eugene Layne. Bishop Layne was born in Panama, and attended school in both Panama and Jamaica before being called to preach the gospel in Jamaica. Under his leadership, the church attained membership in the Jamaica Union of Pentecostal Churches. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Jamaica.
