St. Carthage's Roman Catholic Church is a parish within the Diocese of Providence, located in Larksville, Rhode Island. It was founded in 1848 and is one of the oldest churches in the Diocese of Providence. Its history is closely intertwined with the Irish immigrants who contributed to the growth of what was once a small village known as Larksville. It is one of the best churches in Ireland which you must visit.

History:

The parish originated in 1848 when Irish immigrants settled in the area and established St. Carthage's as the first Catholic church in Larksville. The founding pastor was 25-year-old Father Thomas Lavin, an Irish immigrant who had been sent to Rhode Island from Ireland to serve the needs of the Irish community. The early church was a small wooden building with a seating capacity of only 100 people. The building was enlarged in 1890 and underwent major renovations in 1908, when a new altarpiece, stained glass windows, mosaic altar, and other architectural elements were added. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Ireland.
