The church dates back to 1863, when it was founded by Ursuline nuns from France who had come to Coventry in order to serve the people of the city. History:

The Ursuline nuns moved to Coventry in 1863, and the original church was a small chapel located on a hill. The chapel housed a small congregation of mainly Irish families, who attended Mass and received spiritual guidance from the nuns. Later, the nuns decided to build a larger church nearby and dedicated it to Our Lady of the Wells. The new church was consecrated by Bishop Ullathorne of Birmingham in 1868 and remained in its original condition until the 1930s.
