The church is believed to have been built at the end of the 12th century and was declared a national monument in 1985. The church was disused and fell into disrepair in the 19th century, although its ruins are still extant. It is one of the best churches in Ireland which you must visit.

The church is believed to have been built by the Anglo-Normans at the end of the 12th century and was known as the Church of the Holy Trinity. By the 13th century it had become a parish church and continued to serve Waterford until the 19th century, when it became disused. This is why, it is considered one of the oldest churches in Ireland.
