: The Great Mosque of Amadiya is one of the oldest mosques in Iraq and dates back to the eighth century AH /twelfth century CE. It is located on a hill overlooking the town of Amadiya, located in the northern part of Iraq. The mosque is considered one of the most important examples of Islamic architecture in Iraq and is renowned for its large, beautiful dome. The mosque consists of a large central assembly area (musalla), which is supported by numerous pillars. It was originally established as a Friday Mosque by the Islamic scholars Al-Haiat Al-Fari and Al-Azadi, and was later extended, most notably by Zainuddin Al-Abdul Rahim Al-Amadi in the nineteenth century. The exterior of the mosque is decorated with colored tiles, reflecting an influence from Persian architecture, while the interior of the mosque is adorned with exquisite Kufic and Thuluth calligraphy, written by Sheikh Zainuddin himself.
