The mosque served as a place of worship for the Shia Muslims in Iraq. It is the oldest surviving mosque in Basra and one of the oldest in Iraq. Al-Zuhair Mosque is a historical building which was badly damaged during the 2003 US-led invasion of Iraq. There are plans to reconstruct the mosque, but so far only a few minor repairs have been made. The facade is elaborately decorated with intricate stone and tile work. The structure also provides a unique view of the surrounding Basra skyline. It is one of the most famous mosque in Iraq which you must visit.

Visiting Hours:
Al-Zuhair Mosque is open to visitors on weekdays and weekends. The visiting hours for the mosque are Monday-Friday from 8 am-1 pm and 4 pm-8 pm, and Saturday-Sunday from 8 am-12 pm and 4 pm-7 pm. All visitors are kindly requested to adhere to any guidelines issued by the mosque. All visitors are requested to dress appropriately and respect religious and social norms in the premise.
