: The Al-Shaheed Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Mosque is located in Mosul city, in the north of Iraq. It was built in 2008 and is one of the largest mosques in Mosul. The mosque is named after a prominent Muslim scholar and saint, Al-Shaheed Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The mosque is said to be a memorial to the martyrdom of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. The mosque consists of two main buildings; a large prayer hall and a smaller building that houses the mausoleum. Inside the mosques, visitors can find several verses from the Quran written on its walls. The mosque also has a history of hosting religious gatherings and spiritual activities. Today, it serves as a place of prayer and reflection. It is one of the most famous mosque in Iraq which you must visit.
Architecture:
The Al-Shaheed Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Mosque is a large and beautiful mosque located in Mosul, Iraq. The mosque was constructed in 2005-2006 and was one of the largest modern mosques in Iraq. It was named after the Islamic leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, who has been the subject of much controversy due to his actions as the leader of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL). The mosque was built with modern construction methods and materials. The exterior walls are made of reinforced concrete with a brick veneer. The walls are decorated with geometric and other Islamic symbols in white marble and colored ceramic tiles. The main entrance is centered in a large marble arch which is topped by two spectacular minarets. The ceiling consists of a series of large dome structures covered with geometric reliefs, which are surrounded by ornamental arches. Inside the mosque is a large central dome which is decorated in a richly colored geometric pattern. The Al-Shaheed Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Mosque is a beautiful symbol of Iraqi culture and has been the scene of many religious ceremonies and gatherings in the past. However, it was destroyed by ISIL forces in June 2014 during the start of their occupation of Mosul. After liberation of Mosul, Iraqi government reconstructed the mosque in 2020 and it is now open to public again. This is why, it is considered one of the most beautiful mosque in the world.
Visiting Hours:
The Al-Shaheed Sheikh Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Mosque - Mosul is open to the public for worship every day from 9:00am to 1:00pm and from 4:00pm to 9:00pm. The mosque closes on Fridays for Friday prayer.
